Preparation Methods
Four ways to prepare your microdose, from simplest to most precise. Each method has trade-offs between convenience, taste, consistency, and onset speed.
Method 1: Chew & Swallow
Simple- Weigh your dose on a precision scale (0.01g accuracy minimum)
- Chew thoroughly for 30+ seconds before swallowing — this is important for absorption
- Take on an empty stomach in the morning
- Wait at least 30 minutes before eating breakfast
Taste tip: Most people find the taste earthy and slightly unpleasant. You can chase with orange juice or water, mix into a small amount of honey or nut butter, or make truffle tea instead.
Pros
- No equipment needed beyond a scale
- Fastest preparation time
- No potency loss from processing
Cons
- Unpleasant taste for most people
- Slower onset (30–60 minutes)
- Slight dose variability between truffle pieces
Method 2: Truffle Tea
Moderate- Weigh your dose and chop or mince the truffles finely
- Place in a cup and add hot (not boiling) water — around 70°C / 160°F
- Steep for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally
- Add honey, ginger, or lemon to taste
- Drink the tea AND eat the truffle pieces for full effect
Temperature matters: Boiling water can degrade psilocybin. Keep the water under 80°C / 175°F.
Pros
- Much better taste than raw
- Faster onset (15–30 minutes)
- Easier on the stomach
- A pleasant morning ritual
Cons
- Takes 15–20 minutes to prepare
- Possible minor potency loss from heat
- Must eat truffle pieces too for full dose
Method 3: Lemon Tek
AdvancedLemon juice pre-converts psilocybin to psilocin, mimicking your stomach acid. This speeds up onset and intensifies the experience.
- Weigh your dose and grind or mince as finely as possible
- Place in a small glass and cover completely with fresh lemon juice
- Let sit for 20–25 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes
- Drink the entire mixture (optionally strain through cheesecloth)
Warning — reduce your dose by 30%: Lemon tek intensifies effects and speeds onset significantly. If your normal dose is 1g, start with 0.5–0.75g when using lemon tek. The faster conversion can make the same dose feel much stronger.
Pros
- Fastest onset (15–20 minutes)
- May reduce nausea
- Shorter overall duration
Cons
- Intensified effects — easy to overshoot
- Sour taste
- Requires recalibrating your dose
- 20–25 minute preparation wait
Method 4: Dried & Capsuled
Gold StandardThis is the gold standard for consistent microdosing. Drying and encapsulating your truffles eliminates taste, ensures precise doses, and extends shelf life dramatically.
Equipment Checklist
| Item | Purpose | Approx. Price |
|---|---|---|
| Dehydrator or oven | Dry truffles at low temperature (max 45°C / 113°F) | €30–80 |
| Coffee/spice grinder | Grind dried truffles into uniform powder | €15–30 |
| Milligram scale (0.001g) | Precisely weigh each capsule dose | €15–25 |
| Empty capsules (size #0 or #1) | Hold your measured dose | €8–15 / 100 pcs |
| Capsule filling machine (optional) | Speed up filling process | €15–25 |
Step-by-Step Process
- Dry: Spread truffle pieces on a dehydrator tray at 35–45°C. Dry for 24–72 hours until completely bone dry — pieces should snap when bent and feel hard like small stones. Alternatively, use an oven at max 45°C with the door slightly open for about 48 hours.
- Grind: Grind ALL dried truffles into a fine, uniform powder using a coffee grinder. This is critical — different parts of truffles vary in potency, so grinding everything together ensures consistent doses.
- Mix: Thoroughly mix the powder to homogenize potency across all capsules.
- Weigh & Fill: Weigh each capsule dose individually on a milligram scale. For dried Mexicana truffles, start with 0.1–0.15g per capsule.
- Store: Keep capsules in an airtight container, away from light, heat, and moisture.
Fresh-to-dried conversion: Truffles lose about 50–70% of their weight when dried. So 1g fresh ≈ 0.3–0.5g dried. Adjust your doses accordingly.
Pros
- Perfectly consistent doses every time
- No taste whatsoever
- Easy to transport and store
- Long shelf life (months to a year)
Cons
- Upfront equipment investment (~€80–175)
- Multi-day preparation process
- Requires milligram-precise scale
Method Comparison
| Method | Difficulty | Consistency | Onset | Taste | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chew & Swallow | Simple | Fair | 30–60 min | Earthy | Beginners, occasional use |
| Truffle Tea | Moderate | Fair | 15–30 min | Good | Daily ritual, sensitive stomachs |
| Lemon Tek | Advanced | Fair | 15–20 min | Sour | Experienced users |
| Dried & Capsuled | Gold Standard | Excellent | 30–60 min | None | Regular protocols, precision |
Easiest option: Many Dutch shops sell ready-made microdose strips or capsules — typically 1g portions of fresh Mexicana truffle, individually vacuum-sealed. These eliminate all preparation work. See the Where to Buy page for details.
