What to Expect

A good microdose is subtle. You shouldn't feel "high" — just a gentle shift toward clarity, presence, and openness. Here's what that actually looks like.

What a Good Microdose Day Feels Like

People describe a well-calibrated microdose in remarkably consistent ways. These quotes capture the common experience:

Like the world has slightly higher resolution.
A heightened version of being sober.
Comparable to the feeling after a great night's sleep or a good workout.
Colors seem a little more vivid. Music sounds a little richer. Conversations flow more easily.

Signs Your Dose Is Right

  • A gentle mood lift — feeling slightly more optimistic, warm, or content
  • Enhanced colors or appreciation of aesthetics (subtle, not visual disturbances)
  • Improved focus and presence — less mental wandering
  • Slightly increased creativity and novel thinking
  • Greater emotional openness and empathy
  • You can work, socialize, and drive normally
The key principle: If someone can't tell you've taken anything, your dose is probably right. A microdose should enhance your day, not alter it.

Timeline of Effects

Here's what to expect from the moment you take a microdose through the rest of your day:

0 – 30 minutes · Onset
You may not feel anything at all, or notice very mild stomach awareness. Some people report slight nausea, especially on an empty stomach. Ginger tea can help. Don't redose — be patient.
30 – 60 minutes · Coming Up
The subtle shift begins. You might notice improved mood, slightly sharper senses, or a gentle sense of focus. Colors may seem a touch more vivid. This is when most people start their productive work.
1 – 3 hours · Plateau
The peak window. Focus, creativity, and emotional openness are at their highest. This is the best time for deep work, creative projects, or meaningful conversations. Physical energy may feel slightly elevated.
3 – 5 hours · Gradual Return
Effects gently taper off. You may notice a soft "afterglow" — a lingering sense of calm and clarity. Some people feel mildly tired in the late afternoon. This is normal and passes.
Evening · Rest
By evening, effects have fully subsided. Some people report vivid dreams on dose nights. Sleep quality is usually unaffected, though taking your dose too late in the day can occasionally cause restlessness.
Timing tip: Most people dose in the morning (7–9 AM) to align the peak window with their most productive hours, and to avoid any sleep disruption.

Red Flags: Your Dose Is Too High

If you experience any of these, your dose needs to come down. None of these are dangerous, but they mean you've crossed from micro into perceptible territory.

Warning signs of too-high a dose:
  • Visual disturbances — breathing walls, patterns, color shifts
  • Feeling "trippy," spacey, or disconnected from your surroundings
  • Difficulty concentrating on work tasks
  • Pupil dilation noticeable to others
  • Anxiety, restlessness, or racing thoughts
  • Feeling unable to drive or operate normally
  • Giggly or unable to maintain composure in professional settings
  • Feeling "too joyful and too philosophical" for the situation

Signs Your Dose Is Too Low

  • No noticeable effect whatsoever after multiple dose days
  • Identical to baseline days with zero perceived difference
  • No change in mood, focus, or creativity tracking over 2+ weeks

Note: Some people have a high natural tolerance. If 1g fresh Mexicana produces zero effect after 3 dose days, gradually increase to 1.25g, then 1.5g. If you reach 2g fresh with no effect, consider a more potent variety like Pajaritos.

Common Side Effects

These are normal and usually mild. They don't mean anything is wrong.

Side Effect When What Helps
Mild nausea First 30–60 minutes Take with ginger tea or a light snack
Slight fatigue Afternoon on dose day Normal — rest if needed, avoid caffeine late
Mild headache Throughout the day Usually dehydration — drink more water
Emotional sensitivity Peak hours (1–3h) Expected — feelings may be amplified both ways
Vivid dreams Night of dose day Normal, often reported as positive
Slight jaw tension Peak hours Rare at microdose levels — magnesium may help

If Something Feels Off

Took too much? Feeling uncomfortable? Here's what to do.

Don't panic. You're safe. This will pass.
  1. Eat something — food helps ground the body and can reduce intensity
  2. Drink water — stay hydrated, avoid caffeine or alcohol
  3. Move to a comfortable space — somewhere quiet, familiar, and safe
  4. Wait it out — effects will fully subside within 3–5 hours
  5. Reduce your next dose by 25–50%
Remember: An uncomfortable microdose experience is almost always just a dosing calibration issue. It doesn't mean microdosing isn't for you — it means your dose was too high. Adjust and try again on your next scheduled dose day.
