How to Dose

Finding your personal sweet spot is the most important part of microdosing. This page walks you through dose ranges, body weight considerations, and the calibration process.

Your dose is correct when you feel a subtle shift — slightly more present, creative, or emotionally open — without any impairment of normal function.

Everyone's sweet spot is different. It depends on body weight and metabolism, individual sensitivity to psilocybin, truffle variety and potency, whether you ate before dosing, and your current mental and emotional state.

Fresh Truffle Dose Ranges

The table below shows dose ranges for fresh Mexicana or Tampanensis truffles. If using a stronger variety like Hollandia, use 50–60% of these amounts.

Level Fresh Truffle Dried Truffle What You'll Feel
Sub-threshold 0.25 – 0.5g 0.05 – 0.1g Almost nothing. Too low for most people.
Low microdose 0.5 – 0.75g 0.1 – 0.15g Very subtle. Slight mood lift. Good starting point.
Standard microdose 0.75 – 1.0g 0.15 – 0.2g Noticeable but not impairing. Enhanced focus, creativity.
Upper microdose 1.0 – 1.5g 0.2 – 0.3g Clearly noticeable. Some people find this too much.
Mini-dose 1.5 – 2.0g 0.3 – 0.4g Mood shifts, possible light visuals. Not a microdose.
Low trip 5 – 10g 1 – 2g Mild trip. NOT a microdose.
Full trip 10 – 15g 2 – 3g Full psychedelic experience.
Dried equivalence: Fresh truffles are roughly 5x the weight of dried truffles due to water content. So 1g fresh ≈ 0.2g dried. For dried psilocybin mushrooms, the active compound concentration is typically higher — a common microdose is 0.05–0.15g dried mushroom.

Body Weight Guidance

There is no established clinical weight-based dosing for microdosing. However, community experience suggests general starting ranges. Individual sensitivity varies far more than body weight, so treat these as rough guidelines only.

Under 60 kg

Start: 0.5g fresh

Sweet spot: usually around 0.5–0.75g

Lower body weight often means higher sensitivity. Start conservative.

60 – 80 kg

Start: 0.5–0.75g fresh

Sweet spot: usually 0.75–1.0g

The most common range. Most dosing guides are calibrated for this bracket.

Over 80 kg

Start: 0.75g fresh

Sweet spot: may need up to 1.0–1.25g

Higher body mass may require slightly more, but don't jump ahead — still calibrate gradually.

Finding Your Sweet Spot

The calibration process takes about one week using the Fadiman protocol (dose day, 2 off days). Follow these six steps:

  1. Day 1 — Start with 0.5g fresh Mexicana truffle on an empty stomach in the morning. This is intentionally low.
  2. Wait 60–90 minutes to fully assess the effects. Don't redose. Note what you feel (or don't feel) in a journal.
  3. If you feel nothing at all, that's fine. Note it and wait for the next dose day (Day 4 on the Fadiman schedule).
  4. Day 4 — Try 0.75g. Follow the same process: morning, empty stomach, wait 90 minutes, journal.
  5. Day 7 — If still too subtle, try 1.0g. For most people, the sweet spot is somewhere in the 0.5–1.0g range.
  6. If at any point you feel "too much", go back to the previous dose. That previous dose is likely your sweet spot.
Important

Do your first few doses on a day when you have no critical obligations. Not because it will impair you, but so you can pay full attention to the subtle effects without pressure.

How to Know You've Found It

Signs You're in the Sweet Spot

  • Slightly elevated mood — things feel a little brighter
  • Enhanced focus and presence — easier to enter flow states
  • More patient, open, and socially at ease
  • Subtle increase in creativity or pattern recognition
  • You can function completely normally at work and in social situations
  • You might question whether it's "doing anything" — that's usually a good sign

Too Much

  • Visual changes (enhanced colors, patterns shifting)
  • Difficulty concentrating on work tasks
  • Feeling "spacey" or detached
  • Noticeable body sensations (tingling, nausea)
  • Emotional intensity that's hard to manage
  • Others can tell something is different about you

Too Little

  • Absolutely no perceptible change over multiple dose days
  • No improvement in mood, focus, or creativity
  • Journal entries consistently say "felt nothing"
  • No difference between dose days and off days

Note: some people are naturally less sensitive. If 1.0g still feels like nothing, try 1.25g — but never exceed 1.5g for a microdose.

Always recalibrate with a new batch

Even if you've found your sweet spot, start low again when switching to a new pack of truffles. Batch-to-batch potency can vary by up to 3x. See the potency section for details.
